Alaska has a slightly negative set of Lemon Laws. The number
of repair attempts required for a car to qualify as a lemon is high, and the warranty period is short. Additionally, the
definition of what vehicles are covered is narrow.
Alaska Lemon Law Rating: 2 (slightly negative- slightly favors the manufacturer)
Vehicles Covered:
- Vehicles registered in Alaska that are intended for personal, family or household purposes
- Excludes motorcycles
- Excludes ATVs or other recreational vehicles not designed for highway use
What constitutes a "lemon":
- Three unsuccessful repair attempts (plus one last attempt after the manufacturer has been notified)
- 30 business days out of service and the defect continues to exist (plus time during the last attempt)
Valid for:
- End of the manufacturer's express warranty or one year whichever comes first
What to do if you suspect you have a lemon in Alaska:
- Immediately draft a letter to the manufacturer of your automobile
informing them of the defects you are experiencing. That notification letter must be sent via certified mail
- You will be required to give the manufacturer one last attempt to repair the vehicle
- Ensure that you save ALL documentation related to your automobile
