Wisconsin has a very consumer friendly set of Lemon Laws, that are stronger than most states. The number
of repair attempts required for a car to qualify as a lemon is high and the length of coverage is short - these favor the manufacturer. However, the
definition of what vehicles are covered is broad - these favor the consumer.
Wisconsin Lemon Law Rating: 2 (slightly negative - slightly favors the consumer)
Vehicles Covered:
- Vehicles sold or leased AND registered in Wisconsin
- Includes motor homes
- Includes motorcycles
- Excludes mopeds and trailers
What constitutes a "lemon":
- Four repair attempts
- 30 calendar days out of service
Valid for:
- Express written warranty or one year
What to do if you suspect you have a lemon in Wisconsin:
- Immediately draft a letter to the manufacturer of your automobile
informing them of the defects you are experiencing. That notification letter must be sent via certified mail
- Ensure that you save ALL documentation related to your automobile
